Architectural & Building Acoustics
Room acoustics, reverberation time optimization, sound transmission insulation in buildings, and auditorium concert hall acoustical design.
The Acoustical Society of India brings together researchers, engineers, educators and professionals to advance acoustics through research, knowledge exchange and collaboration across physical, architectural, environmental and underwater domains.
The Acoustical Society of India (ASI) is the national multidisciplinary organization uniting physicists, acoustic engineers, architects, audio specialists, oceanographers and medical acousticians from scientific institutions, defence research establishments and industrial laboratories.
Established and registered at Visakhapatnam on 31 July 1971, the Society works for “the advancement of science and technology of all branches of acoustics”, coordinating the annual National Symposium on Acoustics (NSA) and publishing original, refereed research in the Journal of the Acoustical Society of India (JASI).
An active member of the International Commission for Acoustics (ICA), the Society sustains national reach through its local chapters, student network and institutional membership across Indian industry.
Acoustic signal analysis, frequency response testing and microphone calibration at an affiliated acoustics laboratory.
From fundamental physical theory to advanced structural and marine applications, the Society's network spans the major scholarly divisions of acoustics and fosters focused technical innovation.
Room acoustics, reverberation time optimization, sound transmission insulation in buildings, and auditorium concert hall acoustical design.
Urban acoustics, industrial machinery noise mitigation, noise mapping, traffic barrier modelling, and occupational exposure standards.
Sonar propagation modelling, ocean ambient noise, marine bioacoustics, subsurface communication, and bathymetric acoustic telemetry.
High-frequency wave propagation, ultrasonic flaw detection in materials, diagnostic biomedical ultrasound, and acoustic cavitation.
Mechanical structural resonance, damping systems, seismic wave attenuation, modal analysis, and elastodynamic wave interaction.
Psychoacoustics, clinical audiology, phonetic acoustic spectra, speech synthesis algorithms, and auditory processing research.
Microphone calibration, sound level meter precision metrology, impedance tube measurement, acoustic intensity probes, and ISO/BIS standards verification.
Fostering research dissemination through national and international scientific gatherings since 1971.
Convened at the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL), DRDO, with Convener Dr V Rama Krishna, Scientist-F, and papers contributed by members nationwide.
The National Symposium on Acoustics is convened annually. No new session is currently announced on the official record; check the events page for updates.
Over five decades of published national symposia proceedings, technical abstracts, papers and Society records.
JASI · First issued January 1973
The flagship publication of the Society, JASI is a refereed journal of the Acoustical Society of India — a non-profit national society founded in 1971 — dedicated to theoretical and applied acoustics, spanning physics, engineering and the acoustical sciences.
Published the full text of the Memorandum of Association and the Rules & Regulations of the newly constituted Society.
Volume 43 of the journal held by international library catalogs, evidencing continuous publication through 2016.
Recent volumes are maintained by the Secretariat; symposium selections appear in JASI and Springer lecture proceedings.
Join India's national acoustical community. Connect with academicians, industrial specialists and scientists while contributing to national technological advancement.
Researchers, professors and practicing professionals with postgraduate engineering or physics qualifications and demonstrated acoustics experience, joining the Society's permanently enrolled status.
Practicing engineers, architectural consultants, audio technicians and scientific officers actively working in acoustics-related industries.
Undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD scholars enrolled in physics, mechanical engineering, speech & hearing and allied scientific degrees.
Defence laboratories, national universities, acoustic equipment manufacturers, testing agencies and R&D organizations.
Update membership credentials, confirm renewal status or request member records through the Secretariat.
Recognitions recorded on the Society's own printed pages and brochures, with the recipient rolls transcribed into the honours directory.
For the best paper published in the Journal of the Acoustical Society of India. The Society's archived awards page prints the roll of honoured papers from 1978–79 through the 2015 selection.
For outstanding contribution and leadership provided in the field of acoustics, listed across two-year terms from 1981–82 through 2013–14 and named for the Society's founder President.
Two standing orations anchor the National Symposium programme: the M.S. Narayanan Memorial Lecture and the Prof. Rais Ahmed Memorial Lecture, recorded in the NSA-2024 brochure.
Recipient rolls are transcribed from the Society's archived awards pages and printed brochures. View the full recipient rolls →
The symposium program for the 52nd NSA at KIIT Gurugram followed a structured submission and peer-review calendar across 2025.
The Society's official website has been undergoing maintenance; society-related queries continue to be handled by the Secretariat contact.
The 51st National Symposium on Acoustics was organized by NSTL (DRDO) under the aegis of ASI, with 'Sustainable Acoustics' as its special theme.
Established and registered at Visakhapatnam on 31 July 1971 under the convenorship of Prof. S. Bhagavantam, following the January symposium “Acoustics in Education” at Andhra University.
Publication of the first issue of the Journal of the Acoustical Society of India (JASI), Vol. 1 No. 1, cementing a refereed publication channel for Indian acoustics research.
Five decades of advancing acoustics science, education and engineering practice across the country, marked in the Society's golden-jubilee year.
The National Symposium on Acoustics reached its 52nd edition as the India International Symposium on Acoustics at KIIT College of Engineering, Gurugram, sponsored by ICA and ASA.
